Homöopathie in der Krankenversorgung - Wirksamkeit, Nutzen, Sicherheit und Wirtschaftlichkeit.

Homeopathy in healthcare - efficacy, benefits, safety and cost-effectiveness

Abstract

This book publishes the complete Health Technology Assessment (HTA) report on homeopathy, which was published as part of the Swiss ‘Program of Evaluation of Complementary Medicine’ (Bornhöft et al., 2006). This programme was carried out by the Swiss Federal Office of Public Health (BAG) to evaluate various complementary medicine disciplines in terms of their efficacy, suitability and cost-effectiveness. As a result, five complementary medicine specialities - including homeopathy - were included in the benefits catalogue of basic insurance for a limited period of time.

In contrast to classic systematic reviews, an HTA also includes data from observational studies and cohort analyses and, in addition to experimental effectiveness, is primarily intended to assess the effectiveness of a therapy in its everyday use (‘real world effectiveness’), its safety and its cost-effectiveness. Social and ethical aspects are also taken into account in the respective research question.
