Homeopathic Medicine Supply in Pharmacies

In March 2024, the research project of the Constantin Hering Foundation on the supply of homeopathic medicines in pharmacies was launched following an intensive three-year preparation phase.

In close cooperation with the Alte Apotheke (Old Pharmacy) in Heroldsberg, this innovative project primarily aims to statistically record the actual demand for individual homeopathic remedies, including their different forms of application (potencies, dosage forms, frequencies).

The project also examines which models of quality management (QM) can be implemented to ensure the rapid and reliable supply of homeopathic medicines in order to optimize patient-centered care.

In this context, new care approaches are being tested that could address existing regional supply gaps in Germany.

Another goal of the project is to identify and quantify the specific needs of patients regarding the supply of homeopathic medicines.

In addition, the project investigates the extent to which individual counseling and support for prescribers and patients by pharmacy professionals can have a positive impact on the acceptance and success of homeopathic therapy

Outlook

Looking ahead to the future development of the project, it is of great importance to establish processes that ensure the highest quality in the provision of homeopathic medicines.

A QM-based security of supply for homeopathics can also help collect valuable data on indication-specific prescriptions of homeopathic medicines, which can then be systematically analyzed.

The first evaluations are scheduled for spring 2026 and are to be published as part of the project.
