"Based on the works of the Gestalt theoretician Karl DUNCKER, criteria for the assessment of therapy effects in individual patients were developed. The principle of therapeutic causality assessment by Gestalt recognition extends the epistemological basis for conventional clinical research. Implications of this extension include new study designs, an extended basis for clinical judgment, and an extension of the system of clinical learning. In contrast to evidence-based medicine, a system of cognition-based medicine is envisaged. These principles can also be applied to clinical psychology."
