Disease

disease norm evaluation models classification

Abstract

"The article summarizes different models of disease and explains their backgrounds. In addition to a clarification of terms and the significance of social and legal frameworks for dealing with disease in the German insurance system, causal pathways and forms of progression are examined as possible determinants of different concepts of disease . The importance of notions of normality and evaluation processes in the experience and description of diseases as well as their classification systems are discussed. Special consideration is given to the so-called biopsychosocial model of disease, supplemented by a historical dimension. Finally, the criticism of the concept of disease and alternative, interdisciplinary approaches are discussed."
