Study of Sources in Homeopathic Literature

As can be guessed from the previous explanations, the private library for professional work quickly grows to several hundred copies, whereby not all works are available at all times due to the specific market with rather low sales figures.

Since the mid-1990s, digital programs with mainly keyword search functions have been created that offer successively growing databases, especially of journal publications from different eras. The aim was to partially compensate for this lack of literature availability.

There are also several freely accessible online databases.

In addition, there is an overwhelming amount of historical and modern lay literature as well as publications from specialized borderline fields, which use the term homeopathy conceptually, but on closer inspection have little or nothing to do with the homeopathic premises or well-founded pharmacopoeias.

In order to separate the wheat from the chaff, the homeopathic practitioner needs at least 10 years of diligence in addition to practical work and a great deal of knowledge, which must be continuously developed. Without this kind of effort, one will hardly achieve a deeper understanding of homeopathic methodology.

For this it is also necessary to educate oneself in medical history. The classifications and structures of clinical symptomatology and their horizon of understanding must be correctly analyzed and classified against the background of the respective epochs and their styles of thought in order to correctly understand and apply the homeopathic Materia Medica in its meaning.

Such an intensive, basically lifelong study of literature accompanies practical experience and is best compared to the development of legal, sociological or philosophical expertise, which is added to medical knowledge and extensive practical expertise.

Experience has shown that this is one of the main obstacles to the development of a well-founded homeopathic-clinical knowledge.

It is hardly surprising that with such an effort, which can be guessed at quickly, and the term homeopathy not being protected, the range of self-appointed experts is also large, who after 2-3 years of dealing with the matter are already pushing onto the market with publications and seminar events, regardless of whether they present pro or contra arguments for homeopathy.
